Heroic batting helps the 3rd XI earn a draw

Going into this fixture the third team were confident of success having narrowly overcome Farncombe in the away fixture earlier in the season. Winning the toss, WBCC inserted the opposition and it looked like a good decision as Matt Lambert removed an opener early on. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with the pitch providing ample opportunity for the spinners, Christo (2-7) and Mitch (4-56) including a stumping so sharp the stand in keeper James had time to drop it twice before leaving the umpire in no doubt he had removed the bails.
Chasing 197 the 3rd XI looked to bat sensibly and build a platform, however good catching from the opposition found WBCC collapsing from 80-3 to 87-6. Toby Stokes was met in the middle by first Terry Keeley and then Ollie Schofield to see WBCC through to the draw and a couple of batting points.
The 3rd XI take many positives into next week not least the seven held catches and the sudden competition for the wicket keeping position.
