Ramdin lights up Tim Bailey memorial game

On a beautifully sunny Sunday morning the president XI captained by club coach Dean Carter took on a Worplesdon select XI, The dons decided to take first use of a flat track. Gavin Jackson & Rich Kitt faced up to Tim Ozanne (Horsley & Send) & Steve Martin (Rowledge) with Steve in particular getting the ball to fly through to keeper Sam Saidman (Walton on Thames) after a good exchange Gavin fell caught in the slips by old favourite Buddy off Steve. Steve quickly doubled up his tally by having club legend Pete Grant LBW to leave the dons 38-2.

Change bowler Mark Budd soon snaffled Venky caught very well at gully by Steve at this point with the score on 43-3 a partnership was desperately need and Hopper proved a willing ally to Rich as they negotiated a testing spell from Budd & Surrey District under 12 leg spinner Max Martin. Just when the Dons were getting a foothold in the game Chris Stewart soon whipped both batsman’s out in a very good spell of leg spin bowling (109-5). Good cameos from Hutchinson (expertly caught & bowled by Arney), Simon Arold & Simon Richardson (superbly run out by a direct hit from Max Martin) helped lift the score to 150-7 and some strong hitting by Dave Kitt finally brought the score to 192 all out in 59 overs of hard cricket.

Staines and Laleham 1st team opening bat Ryan Ramdin walked out with Len Ozanne to take on Hopper & a fired up Hutchinson, 27 were put on before Hutchinson pegged back Len’s off stump. In walked  captain Carter who put on a match defining 90 run partnership with Ramdin and while it looked like the pair would coast the side home a poor piece of cricket from Ramdin saw Carter run out. Ramdin carried on his merry way compiling a beautiful hundred before he retired out and the mantel was left to Saidman 36 not out and Tim Ozanne 12 not out to race to victory with over 30 overs in the bank.

A fantastic day played in good spirit, under a warm sun and topped off with a tasty BBQ.
