Professionally coached nets start this Tuesday 6.30pm

Our summer nets programme starts tomorrow night at the club from 6.30 until 8.30 with our head coach Dean Carter. These nights will be focussed upon improving all facets of the game including fielding and specific drills will be incorporated into the sessions. These are open to ALL to attend and we want to encourage everyone to get involved with the coaching. These sessions will be charged at £3 per session to allow us to cover the cost of the hire of our coach. We feel as a club that this is fantastic opportunity for all involved with the club and a great way for us to push the club forward in the right direction.

We will also still be running sessions on a Thursday night as we have done in the past. Dean will not be attending these sessions and they will have the format that we have had over the last few seasons. These will be a standard net sessions for those who wish to get some specific batting or bowling practice ahead of the weekend games.

Also, as with last season we will have the bar open whilst the sessions are running on a Tuesday and Thursday night. We see this as a great opportunity to have a drink with your teammates after a practice session.

Thanks, WBCC Committee

View From The Coach

Well with only 4 weeks Tuesday until our first outdoor net and snowmen on the outfield its time for me it’s time for me to give a progress update on how nets are going.

Last night we had the largest turn out this winter which is great to see, especially with a number of young players turning out the future looks bright. What has stood out for me is the commitment and work rate of the lad who have come into the first team net, regardless of age and experience everyone is knuckling down and getting involved. On the 'pitch' while I rarely like to single out individuals Mike Black and Martin Newman have looked top class and bang in form which bodes well as they are the clubs opening batsman for the 1s. I’d have to say from a bowling point of view the whole unit are going through the gears nicely and proving a testing proposition for the batters.

I was pleased to see one of the young second team lads batting in the 1s net last night and this is something I’m keen to see continue as its vital for the club to prepare our younger players for the demands of 1st team cricket.

Let’s keep up the good work chaps with indoor sessions running Wednesday the 17th of April and senior 1st team squad* practise starting on Tuesday the 16th it’s a great week to get some extra work in and get ready for what is shaping up to be a wonderful season.

Coach Carter

* 1st team squad is not an exclusive term if you are a second team player pushing to break into the 1st team I’d love to see you guys down as well

Seb Langridge Heading Back To The UK

Hot on the heels of his brilliant debut season, the Worplesdon favourite is heading back to the UK to play in Devon. Please see below the news article relating to his signing:

Central Districts A keeper Seb Langridge has signed to play for Devon Premier League's Budleigh Salterton this summer.

Langridge (22) is a promising cricketer who was the Central Stags keeper during the recent National Provincial A Tournament. Son of former New Zealand state player Gary, Seb has played representative cricket throughout the age-groups and has become a dominant figure in Hawkes Bay Premier cricket.

Last season, Seb played in the Surrey County League for Worplesdon and Burpham, hitting 557 runs at 61.89 to top the Division 2 run aggregates. The Ancestry Visa holder is hoping his season playing in the Devon Premier will help press his claims for higher honours in future.
