With the season fast approaching last night we had our first outdoor net session ahead of the new season. On the back of a good 1st XI performance on Saturday away against Peper Harow it was good to get back working on our fielding and fitness last night. Saturday’s performance with bat and ball was decent with us managing to restrict the opposition to just 146 in 45 overs and managing to chase it down with ease mainly thanks to Hannes’ brilliant innings of 96. However, there were times in the game where our fielding let us down whether it be from backing up the throw or dropping a couple of catches. Although only a pre-season friendly it is still imperative that we take our catches throughout the season as it can be the margin between winning and losing.

With a good turnout last night at the first outdoor net sessions with Dean of around 15 or so we spent around 2 hours solidly working on our ground fielding, catching, throwing and fitness. It was great to see everyone get so involved with all the exercises that Dean was trying to incorporate into the sessions. Despite a little bit of bumpy start with the ground fielding (mainly due to the outfield it has to be said) things massively improved over the 2 hours. Especially when it came to taking the high catches and the end of the session. A special mention has to go to Pryan for some sublime slip fielding that really raised the bar high.

All in all I felt it was a very good session and it was great to see some new faces down at training whether they be new to the club or those that weren't able to make it to the winter sessions. Next week we will be able to incorporate more cricket skills into the training as we will officially be able to use the whole ground as we will have had the changeover from the football club. Although we will have use of the square and nets I still hope we spend a good amount of time on our fielding and fitness as this is something that can be improved very quickly with committed practice.

These sessions are open to ALL that wish to come down and have a designated coached session. Throughout the season we will still have club nights on a Thursday as in previous years to allow us all to have two opportunities to work on our game ahead of each weekend.

Good luck to both sides who are playing this weekend. Let’s get two big wins ahead of our first two competitive games next weekend!

winter-updateAs we enter week 6 of our winter net preparation I take a look back on what we have achieved so far..... The most impressive aspect is clearly how the first team lads have thrown themselves into each scenario and given 100% for the full hour (if only we had more time!!). We've had batters running 3s every 4 balls for near on half an hour, bowlers doing variety short sprints in between their spells...

blog-week-4 4 Weeks into the Pre-Season Indoor Net Sessions, Dean Carter the clubs’ new Head Coach has proved a breath of fresh air. Working mainly with the first team players during the winter months he has provided net sessions with purpose, innovation and fitness in mind. Each session is based around a 4 v 4 match based around differing scenarios to make each session unique. I know everyone who has been...

blog-coach-carterAfter week one I can say with confidence that the willingness to improve and embrace new ideas is defiantly there. I was pleased to see all the players who were invited to the 1st team net turned up bang on time which demonstrated just how committed the lads are to succeed. The net went very well with all the lads competing hard and that determination to win will hopefully become ingrained in the...
